How to use the json to yaml tool
-
Paste your JSON
Paste JSON into the left pane or drop a .json file. Any valid JSON works, including deeply nested API responses.
-
Tune the YAML output
Set indentation to 2 or 4 spaces, sort keys alphabetically, and force quotes around strings when a value looks like a number or boolean but must stay a string.
-
Copy or download
Copy the YAML or download it as a .yaml file, ready to drop into Kubernetes, CI or application config.
What makes this one different
- Force-quote strings so "1.0" never becomes the number 1.0
- Configurable indentation (2 or 4 spaces) and alphabetical key sorting
- Long lines are wrapped cleanly instead of producing one giant line
- No YAML anchors are introduced — output stays plain and portable
- Client-side conversion: your config stays on your machine
Privacy by architecture: this page contains no analytics that receive your input, and the conversion code runs in your tab. You can disconnect from the network after loading and keep working.
JSON to YAML — frequently asked questions
Why does my “1.10” value become 1.1 in YAML?
Because it was a number in the JSON source, and YAML renders numbers canonically. If the value is semantically a version or an identifier, turn on “Force quotes” so it stays a string in the YAML.
Are JSON keys with dots or dashes safe?
Yes. The generator quotes any key that could confuse a YAML parser and leaves plain keys unquoted, so output stays readable but unambiguous.
Can I convert a large JSON file to YAML?
Yes — paste it, drop the file on the input pane, or use the File button. Multi-megabyte documents are fine in a desktop browser; the conversion itself takes milliseconds.
Does the output preserve key order?
By default, yes — keys keep their JSON order. Enable “Sort keys” when you want a deterministic, alphabetised file that produces clean diffs in version control.
