YAML to JSON Converter

Paste YAML — a Kubernetes manifest, docker-compose file, GitHub Actions workflow or any config — and get clean JSON immediately. Conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste ever leaves your device.

Options

YAML input

Examples: Kubernetes manifest · App config · Multi-document — ⌘/Ctrl + Enter converts · drop a file to load it · processed locally

JSON output

Output is read-only. Use Copy, Download or Share to move it out.

How to use the yaml to json tool

  1. Paste or drop your YAML

Paste into the left pane, drop a .yaml/.yml file onto it, or load one with the File button. Conversion starts as you type — there is no Convert button to hunt for.

  2. Pick your output format

Choose 2 or 4-space indentation, sort keys alphabetically, or switch multi-document YAML between a JSON array and first-document-only output.

  3. Copy, download or share

Copy the JSON with one click, download it as a .json file, or grab a share link that embeds your input and settings so a teammate sees exactly what you saw.

What makes this one different

  • Multi-document YAML (--- separators) becomes a JSON array — no silent data loss
  • YAML 1.2 anchors, aliases and merge keys are fully resolved
  • Errors report the exact line and column with a code excerpt, not just “invalid YAML”
  • Live conversion as you type, in both directions
  • 100% client-side: configs often hold tokens and passwords, so nothing is uploaded
  • Works offline once loaded — no server round-trip per keystroke

Privacy by architecture: this page contains no analytics that receive your input, and the conversion code runs in your tab. You can disconnect from the network after loading and keep working.

YAML to JSON — frequently asked questions

Is my YAML uploaded to a server?

No. The converter runs entirely in your browser using a bundled YAML parser. Your config — including secrets inside it — never leaves your device, and the tool works offline after the page loads.

How are multi-document YAML files handled?

Documents separated by --- are parsed individually and combined into a JSON array, one object per document. If you only want the first document, switch the multi-document option to “First document only”.

Does it support Kubernetes and docker-compose files?

Yes. Any valid YAML 1.2 works: Kubernetes manifests, docker-compose.yml, GitHub Actions and GitLab CI pipelines, Ansible playbooks, OpenAPI specs and Helm values files. Anchors and aliases used by Helm templates are resolved to their final values.

Why did my YAML fail to parse?

The most common causes are tabs used for indentation (YAML only allows spaces), a colon missing after a key, or a duplicate key in the same mapping. The error panel shows the offending line and points at the column, which usually makes the problem obvious.

What happens to YAML comments?

Comments do not exist in JSON, so they are dropped. If you need to preserve them, keep the YAML as the source of truth and treat the JSON as a build artifact.

Can I convert very large files?

Files up to a few megabytes convert in milliseconds. Extremely large files (tens of megabytes) depend on your device memory; a desktop browser handles them comfortably where a phone may not.
